The research at the National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, is divided into two major fields: life sciences and materials science. The Laboratory of Materials Chemistry (L10) is the biggest laboratory in the field of materials science. Its research if focused on modern battery systems, coating development and on electocatalysts.

The group dealing with modern battery systems is developing novel electrochemical materials but also tries to get new insights into materials and cell properties.
Our mission is to advance the scientific and technological understanding of electrochemical energy storage specifically in the context of a sustainable energy system, in which renewable energy is required to be stored in secondary batteries and (re-)converted into electricity. Our applied fundamental is focused on devices like secondary batteries – specifically Li-ion, post Li-ion, Mg batteries and some other advanced systems.

On all technical complexity levels, we are utilizing advanced in situ diagnostic tools to gain insights on properties and processes from the nanometer to the mikrometer scale, respectively.
