The University of Bayreuth is one of Germany’s leading young universities, internationally recognized for its interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching. With a strong foundation in natural sciences and engineering, the university offers a dynamic environment for cutting-edge research. The Bavarian Center for Battery Technology (BayBatt) at the university of Bayreuth brings together battery-specific expertise in physics and chemistry, material science and engineering, as well as information technology and economics. Its central task is the interdisciplinary research and development of battery storage systems, as well as university teaching. The research encompasses all length scales of batteries, from atomistic structure and particles, to cell components and cells, battery modules and battery systems to the higher-level energy system, including sustainability. BayBatt serves as a bridge between academic research and industrial application, fostering innovation in areas such as electromobility, portable devices, and stationary energy systems. The Chair of Inorganic Active Materials for Electrochemical Energy Storage (Prof. Bianchini) focuses in particular on the atomic scale properties of electrode materials for Li-ion batteries and next-generation Na-ion, K-ion and solid-state batteries. It tackles the design and synthesis of new materials, as well as their structural and electrochemical characterization, including in situ and operando characterization techniques.
