About i-MESC
i‑MESC is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Programme that provides advanced, interdisciplinary training in Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion. The curriculum combines five complementary pillars:
- Chemistry – fundamentals, physical chemistry, electrochemistry
- Characterization – microscopy, diffraction, operando techniques
- Devices – batteries, supercapacitors, thermal energy storage
- Engineering – design, modelling, interfaces
- Digitalization – AI, data science, digital twins
- Soft skills – communication, ethics, project management
The programme follows a structured progression:
- S1: Warsaw: Foundations in chemistry and physical chemistry
- S2: Toulouse: Advanced (electro)chemistry and introduction to energy‑storage applications
- S3: Specialisations across partner sites
- Amiens: battery engineering & digitalization
- Bilbao: thermal energy storage & large-scale facilities
- Ljubljana: fuel cells
- S4: Master’s thesis
With 387 graduates from 60 countries and 62 students currently enrolled, i‑MESC has built a global community with excellent employability across industry, R&D centres and top-tier PhD programmes.

Application Timeline
i‑MESC follows a fixed annual application cycle:
- Applications open: every October
- Applications close: every January
- Programme start: September of the following academic year
