About i-MESC

i‑MESC is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Programme that provides advanced, interdisciplinary training in Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion. The curriculum combines five complementary pillars:

  • Chemistry – fundamentals, physical chemistry, electrochemistry
  • Characterization – microscopy, diffraction, operando techniques
  • Devices – batteries, supercapacitors, thermal energy storage
  • Engineering – design, modelling, interfaces
  • Digitalization – AI, data science, digital twins
  • Soft skills – communication, ethics, project management

The programme follows a structured progression:

  • S1: Warsaw: Foundations in chemistry and physical chemistry
  • S2: Toulouse: Advanced (electro)chemistry and introduction to energy‑storage applications
  • S3: Specialisations across partner sites
    • Amiens: battery engineering & digitalization
    • Bilbao: thermal energy storage & large-scale facilities
    • Ljubljana: fuel cells
  • S4: Master’s thesis

With 387 graduates from 60 countries and 62 students currently enrolled, i‑MESC has built a global community with excellent employability across industry, R&D centres and top-tier PhD programmes.

Application Timeline

i‑MESC follows a fixed annual application cycle:

  • Applications open: every October
  • Applications close: every January
  • Programme start: September of the following academic year
