The research programme in the Nanostructures and Functional Materials Group of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oslo unites several areas of battery research: design and synthesis of new bulk and nanostructured materials for Li-ion, Na-ion and multivalent metal-ion batteries, computational studies of battery materials, surface modification by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and operando characterization of battery materials. Among the other energy storage technologies, the group is also focused on metal-ion capacitors.
The research activities at University of Oslo span from fundamental understanding of materials chemistry to real-life applications, the latter work is conducted in close collaboration with rapidly growing Norwegian battery industry.
