PhD students and Postdoc in the field of solid-state batteries at IEK-1

The Institute of Energy and Climate Research, Materials Synthesis and Processing (IEK-1) offers the positions of:
PhD students and Postdoc in the field of solid-state batteries
Batteries play an increasingly important role in mobile and stationary applications. In spite of the progress achieved, a significant increase in power, energy density and lifetime of the batteries is required to boost their performance in the future. Of primary importance for this development is the research on novel materials, both of electrolyte and of electrodes, as well as understanding the fundamental principles governing the critical resistances in the solid-state batteries.
Within a third-party funded project you will work on the development of ceramic solid-state batteries. Depending on the project, your tasks will include: development of solid electrolytes; optimization of electrolyte materials with regard to material compatibility, conductivity and processability; fabrication of battery components using ceramic technologies; developing the synthesis approaches to minimize the interfacial resistances within the battery; material characterization and electrochemical characterization of the battery components.
Your profile
- Master or PhD in material science, engineering, physics, chemistry or a comparable field
- Extensive experience in the synthesis of inorganic materials, sound knowledge of powder technology and solid-state chemistry
- Profound knowledge in electrochemistry and electrochemical analysis methods
- Experience in planning, implementation and evaluation of research projects
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
Our offer
- Working in a young and highly motivated team in one of the biggest research centers in Europe
