Postdoc position available at Physics, Chalmers University of Technology

DFT and COSMO-RS based rational electrolyte development (1+1 year)DFT and COSMO-RS based rational electrolyte development (1+1 year)Electrolytes for next generation batteries are a complex class of materials, but by applying several modelling approaches starting at the molecular level the development can be made more rational.By a joint computational and experimental approach fundamental properties such as solubility, stability, and conductivity etc. can be targeted, tested and verified. A postdoc with ample PhDexperience of molecular ab initio/DFT and/or COSMO-RS simulations for molecules is now needed – to work mainly on the development of new electrolyte materials, but also with opportunities toexpand the computational methodology. In addition, the postdoc should be able to specify/create and handle a GPU-based workstation and to be responsible for the development of scientificvisualization tools and activities within the research group. The position is mainly funded by CAlcium Rechargeable BAttery Technology (CARBAT) – a novel H2020 FET-Open funded project between ICMAB (Barcelona, Spain), U. Complutense (Madrid, Spain),Fraunhofer ISiT (Itzehoe, Germany), and Chalmers. Hence the main aim is to assist the creation of efficient calcium-ion conducting electrolytes, but also sodium-ion, lithium-sulfur, and aluminiumbattery electrolytes will be included. Excellent oral and written reporting to the CARBAT consortium as well as at international conferences and in scientific journals of high repute is also expected.Information and ApplicationInformation and ApplicationThe postdoc must be able to work independently both in his/her own scientific efforts, when reporting results orally and written, and when guiding and supervising BSc, MSc and PhD students.A PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science no older than 2 years is strongly preferred. The postdoc will be mentored by Prof. Patrik Johansson, Physics and additional CARBAT PIs.The postdoc will be mentored by Prof. Patrik Johansson, Physics and additional CARBAT PIs.Starting date: 1/12-2017 – 1/1 2018.
