PhD-position in electrode and electrolyte materials for Na-ion batteries

Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory conducts research and education in chemistry. The Department has over 300 active persons, of which 180 are employees and the rest consists of guest researchers and students doing research at Masters level. Annual turnover is just over 175 million SEK.
Duties: The PhD project will be carried out at Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC) which is part of the structural chemistry program at Uppsala University. The goal of this project is to investigate novel electrode and electrolyte materials in order to improve the performance of Na-ion batteries. In particular, new anode materials and their interfacial properties in Na-ion batteries will be studied. The project involves synthesis and characterization of inorganic materials and their chemical and electrochemical interactions with the electrolyte in Na-ion batteries.
Requirements: Candidates should hold a master degree in chemistry or alternatively in materials science. Experiences with materials synthesis and characterization is necessary. Any experience in using electrochemical techniques and photoelectron spectroscopy to study batteries or other electrochemical systems is beneficial. The candidate should have good skills in speaking and writing in English.
Application procedure: The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of Master thesis, published article or relevant materials, if available. Also, contact information of at least two reference persons should be included.
The research education corresponds to four years of full-time studies, and it can be complemented with up to 20% teaching, whereby the total employment time becomes five years. The salary is set in accordance with local guidelines of the Section of Chemistry, Uppsala University. For further information read here.
