2 Postdoc positions available at Chalmers University of Technology

1. Raman spectroscopist:
Ex situ, in situ, and operando studies of lithium-ion battery materials (1+1 year)
The target is to further develop the Raman analysis technique for:
i) studies of carbon fiber based anode materials – aimed at structural batteries,
ii) assessment of degradation of Li-ion battery electrolytes – from commercial vehicle batteries, and
iii) operando spectro-electrochemistry – aimed at addressing stress/heat in anode materials.
The work involves cell design and creating optimized measurement set-ups, prior to detailed measurements and analysis. The project is part of larger Swedish networks.
2. Solution / Physical electrochemist:
Development of novel electrolytes for next generation Mg, Li-S, and Al batteries (1+1 year)
Foremost by developing new electrolytes, based on mixing new matrices and salts, and studying the fundamental physical properties, the aim is to address the possibilities to create better re-chargeable batteries. The work involves large degrees of freedom in performance and thus true creativity.
Tasks mainly involve molecular level physical and electrochemical characterization, with experience of battery construction and testing (coin-cells, Swagelok) being an advantage. The project is part of a large European network.
Basic data
Both postdocs are supposed to be able to work independently both in the lab and when reporting results orally and written, and sharing responsibility in guiding/supervising PhD and MSc students.
A PhD degree no older than 2 years is strongly preferred.
Both postdocs will be mentored by Prof. Patrik Johansson, Applied Physics.Starting date: ASAP for both positions.
Salary: Ca 33.000 SEK/month (approx. 3600€/month) pre-tax (tax ≈30%), all social benefits included.
Working language: English (as our activities and division are highly international, > 10 nationalities).
